Who are we

Since 2004, the NGO Label Beauté Noire has been a pioneer in raising awareness and providing information about the dangers of voluntary skin depigmentation (skin bleaching) and the risks of hair straightening as public health issues in France and internationally, working with the City of Paris, the Ministry of Health (ANSM), the DGCCRF, UNESCO, the WHO, the Regional Health Agency…

2005

Black Beauty NGO Label has launched warnings about the dangers of skin lightening and hair straightening.

2009

First awareness campaign in partnership with the City of Paris.

2011

Recognition of voluntary skin lightening as a public health issue by the French State.

2012

ANSM (French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety) warns against certain skin-lightening products.
Creation of a “blacklist” of 160 products, 40% of which contain harmful substances.

2014

Draft legislation for Black/dark-skinned/mixed-race people
in the National Assembly and the Senate

2015

Creation of the Health Law authorizing Class Actions.

2016

Preparation of a new list of names concerning cosmetic products for Black skin/Afro hair.
6th institutional campaign with the City of Paris and first awareness campaign “Afrika 2016”.
